Work Events

Regular work times are scheduled primarily in the evenings for the benefit of volunteers who work during the day. However, we will schedule a work event any time (except Sunday morning) that three or more persons wish to work. Individuals can weed or hoe outside of scheduled work times anytime at their convenience. A typical work event lasts 1 to 2 hours. See the This Week page for events taking place in the coming week.

Scheduled work days are (6:00 to 8:00 p.m.):

Monday       Lacy Garden

Tuesday       Hershberger Gardens

Wednesday  Malmquist Garden (This is a change from the Thursdays of previous years.)

Additional times (9:00 a.m., Monday, 6:00 p.m. Wednesday) are needed during harvest because each garden is harvested twice weekly.  The Lacy Garden will be harvested each morning on days that the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is open (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday).

Work events can be scheduled at any time except Sunday morning for groups of three or more persons.  Contact Emmett or Ken to schedule.

Equipment: All equipment needed is provided. Bring your own drinking water in warm weather. We provide latex gloves and have a limited supply of cloth gloves. Sturdy shoes are recommended. Be prepared to get muddy in wet weather. We do not work in the rain, but the gardens will be muddy for several days after a soaking rain.

Transportation: All of the gardens are beyond present bus lines but  within a reasonable biking distance (8 to 15 miles). We are unable to provide transportation, but we hope that car pooling can be arranged.  If you have a car and are willing to car-pool, please contact one of us garden managers:

Hershberger Garden:  Jessica Mackie 512-6968
Lacy Garden:    Thomas Parslow 228-4736
Malmquist Garden:  Phil Cox  835-6559
