Who We Are

We are volunteers helping feed the hungry in the Madison (WI) area. We are retirees, members of church or civic groups, student groups, various youth groups, families and individuals making a difference by growing food.

Mission: We are volunteers helping to feed the hungry in the Madison (WI) area by providing food pantries with fresh, nutritious vegetables.

We annually raise approximately 75,000 lbs of produce on four 1-acre gardens at three locations. This requires many volunteers. In fact, we spend 15 volunteer hours per garden each week to plant, weed and harvest. Each hour we volunteer results in 50 lbs of fresh produce for our less fortunate brethren. We invite you to join us.
The gardens are named after the owners who generously provide the land. Each garden has a coordinator:
Lacy Garden, coordinated by Thomas Parslow. Produce from this garden goes to the St. Vincent de Paul Food pantry.
Hershberger Gardens (two 1-acre sites), The North site is coordinated by Phil Cox. Produce is delivered to the Community Action Coalition (CAC) and the 2nd Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin.
The South site located next to the buildings and highway is coordinated by Dick Reynolds and Laura Green. Food from this site will be delivered to Catholic Multicultural Center to supply its food pantry and meal program. Clients will be taught how to prepare and preserve vegetables. Produce not needed for these functons will be delivered to CAC or 2nd Harvest.
Malmquist Garden Does not have a coordinator at this time. Produce from this garden will be delivered to the Community Action Coalition (CAC) and the 2nd Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin.
